ADDICTION FACTS

  • There are 10,000 drug addicts living in the downtown eastside of Vancouver alone.   That number increases exponentially when including the lower Fraser Valley.
  • 90% of property crimes and muggings are drug related.
  • 80% of those addicted suffered through some form of abuse during childhood, be it mental, physical, sexual or emotional.
  • The average addict needs up to $400.00 per day to support his/her drug habit.
  • The average addict has to steal an average of $2,000.00 worth of property and goods to raise the $400.00.
  • The average addict “self medicates” a physical, emotional, spiritual hurt with drugs he/she has not been able to deal with in a healthy manner.
  • Most prison inmates entered prison as a direct result of a alcohol or drug dependency.
  • The vast majority of addicts who live in the downtown eastside did not grow up there.  They came from all walks of life and from communities all over this province and country, including yours.

CONCLUSION

It makes sense for individuals and organizations in our society to support recovery with their time and their financial resources.  The existing situation is costing our society too much in material loss and human despair.  The problem of addiction has come out of our neigbourhoods, the solution must be accomplished within our neighbourhoods.
If HOPE FOR FREEDOM SOCIETY was not around, there would be 73 addicts committing $1.2 million worth of crime against society per day. It costs $145.00 per day to house a prison inmate. It only costs $33.00 per day to teach an addict a new and productive way of life.  The societal cost of addiction is astronomical.  Without any cost to the taxpayer HOPE FOR FREEDOM SOCIETY is making a difference, however, we need the financial help of the community around us.
God is changing lives and healing broken people within our facilities.  Please consider how you can help this important ministry.
